ACM Group Conference Series is committed to providing an inclusive environment and we will do our best to accommodate requests for special assistance. This page describes the accessibility features of ACM Group 2020, to help you make an informed decision about whether the conference will be accessible to you. Please contact us if your question is not answered here, or if the conference arrangements as described are not enough to allow you to attend. We will work with you to the best of our ability, to make the conference accessible.

The Accessibility Co-Chairs are Isa Jahnke and Claudia Müller whose goal is to ensure the conference is accessible to everyone. When you register for the conference, there will be a registration question labeled "Please describe any special accessibility or dietary needs here". In your response, please indicate any accessibility needs such as wheelchair access, guide dogs/animals, sign language interpretation, a guide/assistant and/or any dietary restrictions. Will sign language interpretation or captioning be available?

Unfortunately, the conference does not provide a team of sign language interpreters or captioners. Please contact our Accessibility Co-Chairs, they will follow up with you to discuss your needs in more detail and help to find a solution.

What are the taxi and public transport options for getting to the conference venue?

Can a student volunteer assist me during the conference?

Student volunteers will be available to assist attendees with disabilities with navigation, meal service, or other accessibility needs. Student volunteers might also be responsible for helping attendees with disabilities, eg wheelchairs. If you will need volunteer assistance at the conference, please indicate this on your conference registration form. Attendees who require personal care assistance should bring their own assistant. Assistants who will be attending conference sessions must register for the conference. A reduced 'companion rate' is available.

What is the conference space like?

For the overall layout of the venue, please refer to this map of the conference space.
The main conference event is on the second floor in the main building of the conference hotel. The main session will be held in the room on the second floor and breaks will be held in the foyer outside this room. Workshops will be in classrooms in the same building, also on the second floor. Wheelchair accessible restrooms are next to the rooms. The registration desk will be at the main entrance of the conference hotel, in the foyer near the front desk. The foyer features a few chairs. The hotel elevators in the lobby are located about 50ft (15 meters) from the main entrance.

Is there a quiet/private room?

There is no quiet, private area (e.g., a mother’s room for breastfeeding/pumping) or a quiet place for an attendee to rest. Please contact us if you are planning to attend the conference and may need such a space.

Will the conference be accessible by wheelchair or power scooter?

Yes, the conference will be accessible to wheelchair users. Lifts/Elevators in the conference hotel provide access to all levels, including basement (pool area) and levels 1-3 (lunch and conference rooms). The meeting rooms will have wheelchair spaces. If you are a presenter who uses a wheelchair, please contact us ([email protected]) as soon as possible so that we can make arrangements. Poster sessions will have space for a wheelchair to move between the posters.
Student volunteers will be available on request to help with the lunch buffet. The social event on the first day in the evening on Monday takes place at the beach. It has a wheelchair ramp access.The conference dinner on Tuesday takes place in the hotel on level 2 and has access via elevator.

What are the restroom facilities like?

There are accessible toilets at every level in the conference hotel. There are no steps between the session room and the restrooms.

What are the arrangements for presenters with accessibility needs?

All presentations will be in the same room. Presenters will present at a podium on the stage. If you are a presenter who uses a wheelchair, please contact us as soon as possible so that we can make arrangements to have a ramp installed. Poster sessions will have space for a wheelchair to move between the posters.

Can I bring my guide dog?

Yes! Guide dogs and other service animals are welcome at ACM Group 2022/23. There will be a relief area with water available. Please indicate on your registration form if you anticipate bringing a service animal to the conference.

Is there a pet relief area?

There is a pet relief area by the accessible bathrooms on 1st and 2nd floors.

Can I attend the conference by robot?

We are sorry, but ACM Group 2022/23 will not be able to accommodate remote attendance by robot.

How much walking or standing will be needed?

The conference will require minimal walking as between sessions and breaks. The conference rooms are adjacent to the elevator. A limited amount of seating will be available during break and poster sessions.

Please contact the accessibility co-chairs as early as possible if you have further questions or special requests.

Will there be an induction loop in the meeting rooms?

The hearing-impaired audience member can use our headsets but he/she must bring along their own induction loop. Below is the specification for the induction loop neckband. Here are the details:
Induction Loop Neckband
The induction loop neckband shall be suitable for use with the receivers.The induction loop neckband shall have the following physical and electrical characteristics:

  • Connection 0.9 m (3 ft) cable with 3.5 mm (0.14 in) jack plug
  • Impedance 28 Ohms at 1 kHz
  • Magnetic field strength 100 mA/m 15 cm (6 in) above loop at 85 μW at 1 kHz input (IEC 60118-4)
  • The induction loop neckband shall be the BOSCH HDP-ILN or similar.
  • The lunch room, poster room, and the foyer do not have an induction loop.

Will speakers and audience members asking questions be using a microphone?

Yes, microphones will be used for all speakers. Attendees with questions will be requested to use a microphone so that their question is more easily heard.

What food service will be provided?

The conference will provide buffet lunches every day except for workshop day, tapas at Wednesday reception, and drink tickets for Thursday art gallery. Food will be available in halal and vegetarian upon request. Dishes will be labeled. For more detailed information please contact the accessibility co-chairs. If you have special dietary needs, please indicate these clearly on your registration form.

Can the conference accommodate special dietary needs?

Yes. Attendees who indicate special dietary requirements on their registration form will be provided with special meals when the conference catering does not accommodate them. If you have a severe allergy please indicate this on your registration form. For more detailed information please contact the accessibility co-chairs.

Will the conference be a smoke-free environment?

All indoor conference areas are non-smoking. Marked smoking areas are away from building and entrance ways.

What if I have a medical emergency or health problem during the conference?

In case of an emergency call 911 for an ambulance.

Will there be childcare?

The conference will provide child care if requested by any attendees during the early registration period. We will work with student volunteers. Please make your request as early as possible. Our accessibility co-chairs will follow up with you to discuss your needs in more detail. After the last day for early registration (TBD), a best effort will be made to accommodate requests, but we cannot guarantee that child care will be available.
